Reflections

8th waaz – 9th Moharramul Haraam, 1425 H – Dubai

The Quran-e-Majid is a Kitaab of Tanzeel and Ta’weel. The Tanzeel is the zahir (open) Quran and Taweel the inner meaning of the Quran.

Rasulallah (SA) stated that he did jihad on the Tanzeel and Molana Ali (AS) would do jihad on the Ta’weel of the Quran. This does not mean that Tanzeel and Ta’weel are different entities; Ta’weel is inherent to Tanzeel.

A scholar once asked Syedna Taher Saifuddin (RA), “Do you believe in Zahir and Batin?” Syedna Taher Saifuddin answered, “Yes, we have both, the (written) word is zahir and its meaning is batin.” The Scholar agreed.

The qisas (narratives) of the prophets that are found in the Quran are not mere stories; they are lessons for people of intelligence to learn from in every time and age. It is necessary, however, to understand these ‘qisas’ from the proper perspective. This cannot be done simply by reading the Quran. Even knowing the Arabic language is not sufficient to comprehend the Quran. Just as a person who knows English will not be able to understand a book on medicine until they have spent a number of years of study in that field.

The Quran incorporates all knowledge, Rasulallah (SA) is the Medina (city) of that knowledge and his shariat has been designed so that all of that knowledge is assimilated within it. If someone fails to follow the tenets of shariat, they will not learn of its meanings and will naturally oppose what they do not understand.

All knowledge is found in the Imam. Therefore you are not prevented from attaining any form of knowledge. The knowledge you are discouraged from is knowledge that will cause disturbance in one’s mind. Just like a doctor advises a patient to keep away from certain things in order for him to recover successfully.

Syedna Taher Saifuddin (RA), prior to becoming Dai, dealt with the case of a sheikh who was greatly disturbed because he had read many books on his own. Syedna Abdullah Badruddin (RA) referred him to Syedna Saifuddin who asked him, “What have you read?”

He said he had read many books, Syedna said to him, “I am the doctor, will you accept what I tell you? Only then will a cure be found.”

The sheikh was in deep angst and said he would accept whatever Syedna told him to do. Syedna instructed him to refrain from reading anything at all, no books or literature of any kind. “So what should I do?” he asked.

Syedna advised him to sleep.

This sheikh accepted what Syedna said. After three or four days he came and was instructed to study certain books. His thoughts were gradually cleared.

It is very important that one maintains an observance of the shariat and attachment to the jamaat of Mumineen. There are those who spend far more time in associating with outsiders. This should not be the case, for these relations can have adverse effects. This is not to say that one shouldn’t associate with outsiders but it should be limited and not be to the point that one turns away from the Jamaat of Mumineen.

Huzurala (TUS) spoke at length on the topic of nikah. Nikah is a very important aspect of the individual’s life. People put off marrying for various reasons; study or work. Huzurala (TUS) emphasised that even in these situations nikah should not be delayed. The marriage ceremonies can then be done later.

It is a hukm of shariat that one should close ranks within the saf in namaaz. One should pray shoulder to shoulder. This is because as soon as gaps appear within a saf, shaitan moves in to cause disruption. This shaitan is compared to the infants of a goat.

On one occasion when Molana Ali (AS) passed through Karbala he said to Abdullah bin Abbas, “Do you know which place this is? If you did you would cry as I do.”

Molana Ali’s (AS) beard was drenched with tears.

It would be here that the sons of Abu Sufyan would overwhelm Ahle Bayt (AS). Imam Husain (AS) was young at the time and Molana Ali (AS) turned to him and said, “Dear son, stand firm.”

Molana Ali (AS) had a dream in Karbala in which he saw the shahadat of Imam Husain (AS). At the end of the dream Molana Ali (AS) was told, “O’ Ali! Glad tidings! Because of Husain; you will be pleased on the Day of Qiyamat!”

In Imam Hasan’s (AS) final moments he called for Husain (AS) and told him, “I do not grieve for my death for I know that shall take care of my children. I am crying for the tragedies that will befall you in Karbala!”

May Allah preserve our beloved Aqamola in sehat and aafiyat, to nourish all Mumineen in body and soul for all time to come.

Ameen
