"Near in His Greatness and Great in His Nearness”
In one of Maulana Ali ZainulabedinAS's doas, he states:
الداني في علوه والعالي في دنوه
"Near in his greatness and great in his nearness."
Awliya KiraamAS's glory is such that mumineen's nearness to them creates awe; we marvel at their character, their actions, their knowledge, their mercy and their empathy. At the same time, we are drawn to their unparalleled ability to unite mumineen and give each mumin a space in their hearts.
Only Mawali KiraamAS are the manifestation of both nearness and greatness. Take the sun, for example. From earth, the sun is millions of miles away, yet it provides warmth and light. The closer to that you travel to the sun, the heat becomes unbearable and the sun's fierce glow forces you to look away in fear. In Maula's saaya, however, mumineen find only peace and solace. Mumineen are drawn to MaulaTUSas inexorably as a fly is to a honey-soaked rope. Our closeness to MaulaTUS is the window to understanding his magnificence, and the preeminence of the Awliya KiraamAS that have preceded him.
Throughout Ashara Mubaraka, Syedna Mufaddal SaifuddinTUS has continuously emphasized that eternal sukoon can only be attained through the mohabbat and zikr of Imam HusainAS. In gathering us to mourn Rasulallah SAW's grandson, MaulaTUShas prepared us and taught us how to engage in noha wal aweel, by bringing the story of Karbala to life before our very own eyes. He has strengthened our understanding of both Imam HusainAS's greatness and that of our Maula TUS.
Tomorrow, Imam HusainAS's dai himself will come before us in the surat of Imam HusainAS. His face will radiate the noor of hisAS's huzun. MaulaTUS will narrate the tragic deaths of Ashaab, Ahle Bayt, and finally, Imam HusainAS; and we will witness the greatness of the very sajda of Imam HusainAS, the same sajda Maulatena ZainabAS saw from atop the hill in Karbala. Tomorrow, our unity with MaulaTUSwill allow us to experience and understand Imam HusainAS's glorious sacrifice. May Allah Ta'ala give us the strength and tawfeeq to spend every minute wailing for and lamenting the zikr of Karbala. May the barakaat of our each tear, maatam, and 'Aah' no naaro pull us closer to our MaulaTUS in this life and the next. And may Allah Ta'ala grant Syedna Mufaddal SaifuddinTUS a long life, for as long as the heavens mourn our beloved Aqa HusainAS.
